Time capsule postcards
What is a time capsule postcard?
A time capsule postcard is a postcard you make today and we deliver on a date you pick, up to 10 years away. You choose a photo for the front, add the place and month as a postmark, and write a message on the back. The postcard designer walks you through it in a few minutes, and we keep your capsule safe until your opening date.
How far in the future can I send a postcard?
You can pick any opening date from one month ahead to 10 years ahead. Your capsule opens on the last day of the month you choose. Pick next spring, a birthday five years out, or the far end of the decade.
Is there a free way to send a postcard to your future self?
The Email Postcard is free. You design the same postcard, with your photo on the front and your message and postmark on the back, and it lands in your inbox on your opening date. Nothing is printed or posted on the free option.
How much does it cost to send a postcard to the future?
Printed postcards start at 7 euros, and shipping is free anywhere in the world. Classic FuturePost is 7 euros, Postcard + Vault is 10 euros and Premium Vault is 25 euros, each a flat price whatever the destination. The Email Postcard is free. Check our pricing grid.
What happens if my postcard gets lost in the post?
We print and send your postcard again, free of charge. Get in touch if your postcard does not arrive on time and we will put a replacement in the post. The Smile Guarantee covers every printed postcard we send, whatever the destination.
Can anyone see my photos and message before the opening date?
No one can peek at your capsule before your opening date. Your photos, voice notes and messages are encrypted before they are stored, and they stay sealed until the day you chose. Anything friends and family add is sealed the moment it arrives.
Can friends and family add photos to my time capsule?
Premium Vault lets up to 500 people add to your capsule. Share one link or QR code and friends and family add photos, voice notes and messages from their own phones, sealed the moment each one arrives. You run it all from your master-key page, where you set the event date, send invites and style the page your guests see.
Making, keeping and managing your FuturePost
Why do I need to confirm my email?
Your email is how your FuturePost finds you when it opens, so we ask you to confirm it with one click. The confirmation arrives right after you send your postcard, with reminders on day 3 and day 14, and once you confirm we send you your capsule's own link. We cannot promise to deliver a capsule to an address that was never confirmed.
Can I finish my postcard later?
Yes. Choose Save my progress in the postcard designer and we email you a link that brings your postcard back, photos included, on this device or any other. The link works for 30 days, and if you save again, only the newest link opens your postcard.
Which photos can I use?
Any JPG or PNG photo up to 10 MB. Other formats, such as HEIC, WebP or GIF, are not accepted, and the designer tells you which limit a photo breaks as soon as you choose it. You frame each photo right on the card.
Can I change the email on my FuturePost?
Yes, from any device you are signed in on. The change applies at once, the new address gets its own confirmation, and the previous address is told about the change, with a link to undo it.
How do I manage my FuturePost from another device?
Open your capsule page and choose Manage this capsule. Enter the email your FuturePost belongs to and we send a sign-in link there. It works once, within 24 hours, and we email you whenever a new device signs in.
Will you email me before my FuturePost opens?
Once a year while your FuturePost waits, we check in to make sure your email still reaches you. If it has changed, you can update it from your capsule page.
What happens on the opening day?
We email you your capsule's link on the day it opens. Until then nothing inside it is shown. Once it opens, your postcard, your message and your photos are there to see.
Can I keep my postcard after it opens?
Yes. Once it opens, you can download your postcard and its photos, share them with anyone you like, or keep them as a private keepsake on your phone or computer.
